Although I’ve never been to the state, I officially rep Indianapolis, Indiana so let me just say: THIS NAPTOWN!
The Indy Funk scene lives on, ‘Gnomie!

Amnesty-Free Your Mind
Amnesty is a lesser known funk/soul band of the 70s. With a style similar to Sly & The Family Stone, they were also a group that talked about the social and political problems of the US during the 60s and 70s. I came across Amnesty due to their album, Free Your Mind: The 700 West Sessions being remastered and re-released on Now-Again Records (subsidiary of Stones Throw) back in 2007. I give Amnesty the credit for re-sparking my interest in funk and soul music once again. They were ahead of their time and to their fan base, they were also a defining and innovative force in the 1970s Funk movement. It kills me to see how overlooked Amnesty is because this is definitely some of the most intensely charged and funky albums I’ve ever heard.Posted on June 11, 2009 via Spoken Beats. with 13 notes
